The Modern Montessori International Group (MMI) was set up in 1989 to introduce the Montessori Method of Education to Singapore .

Today, MMI has grown to encompass 32 pre-school centres in Singapore and a full-fledged pre-school teacher-training school in the Corporate HQ occupying the entire 8000 square feet of the 24th storey of Orchard Towers.

In addition, MMI also has its own 7 storey building at South Bridge Road, Which houses the Chairman's office and Finance Department.

The phenomenal growth of MMI did not happen by chance. It was built on sheer guts and perseverance. The journey started when MMI was born 17 years ago in an old shop-house, as a teacher-training school offering the Diploma in Montessori Method of Education.

Subsequently, MMI pre-school centres sprouted up all over Singapore. With the growing popularity of Montessori Method of Education and the dedication of MMI lecturers and teachers, MMI soon became household name in the field of Early Childhood Education.

The MMI brand name is equated with a stamp of quality and assurance. MMI achieved many prestigious accreditations like ISO 9001:2000, Singapore Quality Class (SQC), Singapore Quality Class for Private Education Organisations (SQC-PEO), Case TMST for Education Singapore Franchise Mark, Open and Distance Learning Quality Accreditation (UK), British Accreditation Council, (BAC), etc.

Today, MMI has made inroads into many countries in the Asia-Pacific region like Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia,Hong Kong, China, India, Sri Lanka, Australia, Nigeria and Kenya. The vast experience accumulated in the last 20 years has ensured smooth replication of business and operation models in those countries. The wide acceptance of MMI education model in those countries is heartening and encouraging.

In line with our policy, MMI has also ventured into other Early Childhood Education courses besides the Diploma in Montessori Method of Education.

MMI has developed a full curriculum for the Certificate in Early Childhood Care & Education (DECCE) DIploma in Early Childhood Care & Education - Leadership (DECCE-L), Diploma in Early Childhood Care and Education-(CECCE).

MMI is also collaborating with U.K .'s Middlesex University to run the Bachelor of Early Childhood Studies degree programme for tertiary students.

DECCE,DECCE-L,CECCE are accredited by the Ministry of Education (MOE) and the Ministry of Community Development Youth and Sports (MCYS) and are eligible for Skill Development Fund (SDF) and Skill Re-development Programme (SRP) funding.

MMI also donates a considerable share of its corporate income to charity - especially to education trust fund for needy children.

MMI's responsiblity to the community is evident in its generous contribution to various self-help groups like CDAC, Mendaki, SINDA and the Eurasian Association. In 2004, MMI contributed SGD$280,000 to G Sarangapany Trust Fund. MMI is currently working with Arulmigu Velmurugan Gnanamuneeswarar Temple to set up a highly subsidized childcare centre for the less fortunate.
